Gaining more popularity in the past decade, a modern-day elopement is a love story written in the language of spontaneity and intimacy. Couples who eloped generally wants to deviate away traditional, lavish ceremonies, focusing instead on the pure, unfiltered connection between two souls.
In this sacred, personal space, every moment is about them—there are no distractions, no expectations, just the promise of forever whispered in secret. Modern elopement is about choosing each other in the most authentic way possible, celebrating love in a setting that feels entirely their own. It’s where the heart leads, and the world fades away, leaving only two people who have found their way to each other against all odds.
Eloping anywhere
You could be standing on the edge of a cliff, the wind playing with her veil, the ocean whispering below, or in a secluded forest, where only the trees bear witness to their vows. or by the beach with the calming waves and seagulls lulling in the background. You could also elope in an entirely different destination and feel like you are having your honeymoon and wedding at the same time. The options are limitless.
How is an Elopement different from a wedding?
The biggest difference I find is breaking away from the template-ness and getting a less stressful day to celebrate your love. Whilst weddings are a great way to have everyone you love and care about be around and celebrate your special day together, Elopements tend to be more intimate where couples can fully focus on themselves without worrying too much about other logistics.
An elopement day is a day that truly is all about you. You can have a few witnesses, or it could also just be the two of you! There are no expectations, you spend most of the day hanging out with your partner on your wedding day, adventure elopements are focused on the intentional intimacy and experience of having the wedding day that you want it to be.
Personally, I eloped and it was fun!

Does Eloping Mean It’s Just the Couple?
Not always! While many people imagine elopements as just the couple running off together, the truth is, you can absolutely include a few special people in your elopement day.
For example, if you’re eloping in Alberta, you’ll need two witnesses to sign your marriage license. These witnesses must be physically present during your ceremony. They can be two close friends, family members, or even your photographer (yes, I’ve happily stepped into that role before!).
So, even if you’re planning an intimate and low-key elopement, you’re not limited to just the two of you—unless that’s what you want! Elopements are all about intention, and that means you get to decide who is there and how the day unfolds.
